National initiative to address homelessness expands in Colorado beyond Metro Denver
Eight more Colorado counties are joining metro Denver in a nationwide initiative aimed at ending homelessness, and they’re getting $500,000 from Kaiser Permanente to plan how best to work together toward their ambitious goal.
Kaiser Permanente Colorado, the state Division of Housing and the nonprofit Community Solutions announced the expansion in Colorado of the Built for Zero initiative.
El Paso County joins national effort to end homelessness
Today, Community Solutions, Kaiser Permanente Colorado, and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs’ Division of Housing announced the creation of a cohort designed to end chronic homelessness in Colorado.
The cohort includes El Paso County and five other local communities along the Front Range, mountain communities, and the Western Slope, according to a news release from Kaiser Permanente Colorado.

Eight counties outside of metro Denver are joining a data-driven initiative to reduce homelessness — an initiative to which Kaiser Permanente announced a $500,000 donation.
Fremont, Mesa, El Paso, Pitkin, Garfield, Eagle, Larimer and Weld counties are among the now-84 communities from New Hampshire to Hawaii participating in Built for Zero.
‘Built for Zero’ seeks end to homelessness
El Paso County will pool resources and brainpower with several other Colorado communities in an initiative to end homelessness, nonprofit health plan Kaiser Permanente Colorado announced Nov. 7.
Built for Zero, a nationwide initiative led by the nonprofit Community Solutions, involves sharing resources between agencies, collecting comprehensive data and making targeted housing investments.

Effort to help the homeless moves forward
“We just feel that it’s part of our ethical responsibility to take care of our people in Pitkin County,” Maisch said of solutions aimed at helping local homeless individuals along a path toward stable housing as well as access to other community services that could reintroduce them to mainstream society.
