BFZ Collaborative Change Package
The Built For Zero Collaborative developed a suite of tools designed to support communities to improve their system and drive reductions in homelessness. This includes a Change Package: a list of evidence-based changes that we believe, if implemented, will result in positive changes to your homeless response system. The change package includes three focus areas: Homelessness Prevention, Housing Placements, and System-wide Collaboration. Additionally, there are “Foundational Activities” and “Build Infrastructure” tools and resources which can be used to incorporate foundational Built for Zero methodology into your system. The descriptions below can guide you to which section might be best for you to begin with.
Change Package
This includes change ideas which focus on three topic areas: Homelessness Prevention, Housing Placements, and System-wide Collaboration. Everything in the Change Package is designed to be implemented through a PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act) Cycle in which testing starts small, is refined, and eventually is scaled. If your community has a dedicated Improvement Team, staff capacity, resources, and measurement capabilities, start with the Change Package.
Foundational Activities
The content found in this section includes activities designed for an inward look at your system. These activities uncover areas and opportunities for improvement in your system. If your Improvement Team is unsure where to begin, consider a Foundational Activity to identify challenges your system faces. This work should help focus your future improvement efforts.
Build Infrastructure
In this section, you will explore what infrastructure needs to be in place to have an effective system. Solid infrastructure supports effective system improvement testing. You’ll find resources like getting the right people to the table, clearing barriers, resourcing, and incorporating racial equity into your work.
